The government in Argentina has made a decision to start relaying blockchain IDs to the residents of Buenos Aires using its existing solution.
Media reports in Argentina have shared the news of a new development in Buenos Aires. The city is reportedly striving towards blockchain adoption with a new initiative. Leveraging an existing solution, QuarkID, the city will start handing out blockchain IDs to its residents. Using the method, users would be able to access documents like certificates on chain.
Initially, the digital wallets on the chain will include birth, marriage certificates, and other income and academic-related documents. Health and payment documents will likely be added to the feature. Meanwhile, QuarkID is also a web3 digital wallet built by a crypto firm, Extrimian. zkSYNC Era, the protocol powering QuarkID, also issued a statement on the new feature.
Guillermo Villanueva, the CEO of Extrimian, said, “This is a monumental step towards a safer and more efficient future for government services in Latin America. QuarkID creates a closer relationship between a government and its citizens while also bringing digital identity practices and security standards to Latin America.”
The press release also noted how the digital IDs will be self-sovereign. Users will be able to manage their credentials while also interacting with the administration. Meanwhile, over 15 million people in the city will be able to get the benefits of the new IDs.
