Crypto card launched by the Avalanche Foundation

The Avalanche Foundation has leveraged Visa to create a crypto card that can be used by all merchants accepting the payment service provider.

Payments using crypto have taken a step ahead with Avalanche’s new crypto card. The Avalanche Foundation took to X to announce the crypto card. According to its official site, holders of the crypto card can use the card to pay merchants accepting Visa. Considering Visa’s global reach, the Avalanche card could come across as extremely useful for users.

Moreover, holders can use the Avalanche card to pay against their crypto assets. Thus, anyone holding USDC or other crypto payments can use it for regular payments. According to the Avalanche Foundation, the card services will only be available by residents of Caribbean and Latin American countries. It will likely expand to other countries gradually.

Meanwhile, a self-custody wallet and a unique address will be attached to every card. The Avalanche Foundation also specified it is a credit card, but the user activities won’t reach credit bureaus. Further, Rain Liquidity would back the card. However, the foundation specified the firm was not a bank.

The new Avalanche card could be a game changer for crypto payments and an enabler for adoption. On the other hand, traditional financial services firms like Visa and Mastercard have ventured into crypto earlier as well. The potential of crypto to disrupt traditional financial services has gained prominence in recent years.

Blockchain technology’s potential to revolutionize financial transactions, offering greater security, transparency, and efficiency, is undeniable. Financial service firms recognize the need to adapt to these technological advancements to remain competitive.

By embracing crypto, traditional financial institutions can position themselves as early adopters, gaining a competitive edge over others. This can attract new customers, strengthen brand reputation, and drive innovation across the crypto space and beyond.
